About the Role
The NIH Postbaccalaureate Program provides recent college graduates with one to two years of full-time research experience within an NIH Institute or Center.
Participants work under an individual Principal Investigator (PI) on biomedical, behavioral, or social-science research. It is one of the most established gap-year research opportunities for premed students nationally, and many postbacs go on to publish research and significantly strengthen their medical school applications.
What You’ll Do
- Conduct hands-on research in a laboratory led by an NIH Principal Investigator
- Contribute to data collection, analysis, and often research publications
- Participate in NIH training and career-development programs for postbacs
