About the Internship
NYU Langone Health’s Department of Population Health is seeking a volunteer intern to support Air Pressure NYC, a randomized clinical trial examining whether portable air cleaners can improve indoor air quality and reduce systolic blood pressure among New York City adults with high blood pressure who live in NYCHA public housing.
This part-time internship provides students with hands-on experience in public health research, clinical research, community outreach, participant recruitment, and field data collection.
Interns will work directly with community members and travel to NYCHA developments throughout New York City as part of the study.
Responsibilities
As a volunteer intern, you may:
- Travel to NYCHA developments to place and retrieve air-quality monitors.
- Conduct face-to-face interviews with study participants.
- Assist with community outreach and participant recruitment activities.
- Support field-based data collection.
- Perform data entry and help maintain accurate study records.
- Follow study procedures and maintain professionalism when interacting with participants.
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
- Current enrollment in a degree program in environmental science, public health, medical sciences, or a related field.
- Professional maturity and strong communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Experience serving, or a demonstrated commitment to serving, low-income communities.
- The ability to travel to NYCHA developments across New York City.
- Spanish and/or Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese) fluency is a plus but not required.
Schedule and Commitment
This is a part-time volunteer internship requiring approximately 20 hours per week during the Fall–Winter 2026 period.
Because the position involves community-based fieldwork, applicants should be prepared to travel to different NYCHA developments across New York City.
