About the Opportunity
The Leon Root MD Motion Analysis Laboratory at HSS supports the hospital’s clinical and research operations. Volunteers have the opportunity to shadow physical therapists, researchers, scientists, and surgeons while gaining hands-on experience in a clinical research environment.
This is a strong opportunity for students interested in pre-med, pre-PT, biomechanics, or related fields. With sufficient time commitment, volunteers may also have the opportunity to receive a letter of recommendation.
What You’ll Do
- Assist clinicians and scientists with data collection during clinical and research sessions
- Prepare treatment areas and stock supplies
- Help prepare processed data for clinical treatment-planning reports
- Assist with data cleaning for research involving:
- Total knee replacement
- Knee osteoarthritis
- Foot and ankle conditions
- Shoulder conditions
- Hand and wrist conditions
- Contribute to literature reviews for manuscripts and grant documents
Qualifications
- Current undergraduate/graduate student or recent graduate in:
- Engineering
- Biology
- Kinesiology
- Physical Therapy
- Neuroscience
- Computer Science
- Or a related field
- Willingness to commit to at least one semester
- Comfortable working with numerical data
- Willingness to learn the lab’s data-processing software
- Completion of CITI training and any HSS-specific HIPAA/compliance training
(Training can be completed during the position.)
