Position Description This dissertation project examines how city budget allocations toward policing and jails, compared with investments in social support services (such as housing, community infrastructure, and family support), influence gun violence. Research involves building a comprehensive database of city budgets to support quantitative analyses and to publish as a publicly available resource.

Students will work remotely with flexible scheduling and participate in weekly virtual team meetings. This is a remote position.

Position Requirements

  • Primary qualifications: Attention to detail and diligence.
  • Experience: No prior research or budget experience is required; all necessary skills will be taught through training and team support.
  • Interest: Ideal for those interested in social justice or public health research.

Time Commitment 20 hours per week.

  • End Date: June 30, 2026
  • Schedule: Flexible scheduling with weekly virtual team meetings.

Compensation Unpaid.

  • Participants will be supported in producing a tangible research product (e.g., poster, abstract, or presentation).
  • Upon completion of committed hours, students are guaranteed co-authorship on at least one manuscript, with opportunities for additional authorship.
