frequently asked question

Are MCAT prep classes worth it compared to self-study?

Many students value prep classes for structured schedules and instructor support, especially for challenging subjects or test strategies. If you struggle to stay accountable or want expert guidance, classes can accelerate your progress.

How long should I study the MCAT, and what schedule works for full-time students?

A 3–6 month study timeline, averaging 15–40 hours per week, is typical for those working full-time. An intensively structured 1-month course can help maintain focus, but costs tend to be higher and may lack depth.

What subjects do I need for MCAT prep classes?

You’ll need a solid foundation in:

  • Biology (with lab)
  • General & Organic Chemistry (with labs)
  • Physics (with lab)
  • Often recommended: Physiology, Genetics, and Biochemistry
How can I choose between online vs in-person classes?

Choose online if you need flexibility and access to video review and live Q&A sessions. In-person classes provide structured environments and team-based interaction. Your preference and schedule should guide your decision.

What’s included in a quality MCAT course?

The best programs provide:

  • Live or recorded lectures
  • Q-banks with thousands of questions
  • Full-length practice exams
  • Flashcards or spaced-repetition tools
  • Study planners and progress analytics
How do I pick the best MCAT in NY for me?

Consider your learning style (visual, self-paced, accountability), your test prep timeline (e.g., 3 months vs. accelerated 1-month), your budget and desired ROI (score increase vs. cost), and the level of support you need (live lectures, tutoring, analytics). These factors will help you find the best MCAT prep in NY that fits your unique needs.

What is the hardest subject on the MCAT?

Many students find the Chemical/Physical (C/P) section most difficult due to physics and chemistry content and problem-solving under time pressure. CARS is also challenging for some, but difficulty varies by individual’s background

Is 3 months enough to prepare for the MCAT?

Yes—3 months is a solid timeframe for most students if you study consistently (around 300 hours total, ~25 hours/week). Full-time students often hit 500+ scores with structured 12-week plans.

What is a good MCAT score? What’s the average, and what do I need to be competitive?

The average MCAT score for all test-takers is around 500–501, but to be honest, that’s not enough if you’re aiming for medical school. Most accepted students have scores around 511–512.
If you really want to stand out, you should aim to break 515. Hitting a 515+ puts you in a much stronger position for competitive schools—it shows that you’re not just ready, but well-prepared.
The highest possible score is 528, and while that might sound out of reach, it’s absolutely doable. Some of our students have jumped from a 521 to 528 in just a few weeks with the right prep strategy.
So bottom line:

  • Average = 500–501
  • Strong applicant = 511–512
  • Competitive edge = 515+
  • Perfect score = 528

If you’re aiming high, make 515 your first big goal
