About the Program

PISTE Fencing in the Park, part of the Prescod Institute for Sport, Teamwork & Education (PISTE), is a Brooklyn-based nonprofit founded by Olympic fencer Nzingha Prescod.

The organization is seeking online tutors to support K–12 students from under-resourced communities in New York City. This volunteer opportunity allows students to make a meaningful impact through education while gaining non-clinical community service experience.

It can be a valuable opportunity for pre-health students looking to contribute to their communities through consistent volunteer work.

Volunteer Responsibilities

Tutors will provide virtual academic support in English and Mathematics to students after school or on weekends, excluding holidays.

Depending on their interests and subject knowledge, volunteers can help students prepare for:

  • New York State exams for grades 3–8
  • High school Regents exams
  • Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT)
  • SAT

Tutors can choose the subject, grade level, and exam they would like to support.

  • No previous tutoring experience is required.
  • Educational resources and guidance are provided.
  • Volunteers must be reliable and consistent in their weekly commitment.
