Desired End: May 2027
Description
This research opportunity, posted through NYU’s Preprofessional Advising newsletter, supports a dissertation project examining how city budget allocations—including spending on policing and jails versus social support services such as housing, community engagement, and family support—affect gun violence outcomes.
Students will help build a public database of city budgets for quantitative analysis. The resulting database will be published online as a publicly available resource.
Students who complete the committed hours are guaranteed co-authorship on at least one resulting paper, with the possibility of additional co-authorship opportunities.
After an initial virtual onboarding session, the position is fully remote and self-directed, with weekly check-ins and occasional team meetings.
