About the Program
The VIDA Pre-Medical Program gives students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in rural healthcare settings across Central America.
Participants work in field clinics serving communities with limited access to healthcare and participate in patient-care activities under the direct supervision of licensed physicians.
The program is available in Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua, with trips typically lasting 9–15 days and offered several times throughout the year.
Spanish fluency is not required to participate.
What You’ll Do
Depending on the clinical setting and supervision provided, participants may:
- Interview patients
- Record patient vital signs
- Assist with physical examinations
- Participate in clinical activities under physician supervision
- Gain exposure to healthcare delivery in rural communities
- Work alongside healthcare professionals and other volunteers
