💙 About the Program
The My Life, My Story Program is a patient-centered narrative medicine volunteer program at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. The program focuses on improving humanistic care for limited-English-proficient Spanish-speaking patients.
Volunteers conduct bedside autobiographical interviews with hospitalized patients and transform their stories into short, first-person narratives. These narratives are added to the patient’s medical chart and shared with their care team, helping healthcare providers better understand the patient beyond their medical condition.
📝 What You’ll Do
- 🗣️ Conduct bedside autobiographical interviews with hospitalized patients.
- ✍️ Create short, first-person patient narratives based on these interviews.
- 📋 Contribute narratives to the patient’s medical chart.
- ❤️ Help care teams better understand patients’ personal experiences and backgrounds.
- 🎓 Participate in seminars focused on trauma-informed care and narrative medicine.
- 🌟 Engage in mentorship and leadership opportunities.

✅ Requirements
- 🇪🇸 Spanish fluency preferred
- 🎓 Pre-medical track
- ⏰ Commitment of approximately 5 hours every other week
