Position Description
Advanced Eyecare of NY is seeking volunteers to support clinical operations in a busy ophthalmology practice. This opportunity provides hands-on exposure to patient care, ophthalmic technology, diagnostic imaging, and clinical research. Volunteers will observe a wide range of ophthalmic cases, assist with clinical workflows, and may have the opportunity to observe surgeries under the supervision of experienced providers.
Responsibilities include:
- Learning and assisting with ophthalmic diagnostic testing, including autorefraction, optical coherence tomography (OCT), visual field testing, and fundus photography
- Observing patient care, consultations, and ophthalmic examinations
- Assisting with patient intake, exam room preparation, and equipment cleaning
- Escorting patients throughout the clinic
- Supporting documentation and medical scribing as needed
- Assisting with general clinical operations under supervision
Position Requirements
- Hardworking, punctual, responsible, and compassionate
- Strong interest in medicine, ophthalmology, or the health professions
- Professional demeanor and willingness to learn
- Ability to commit at least one semester preferred
- Availability to volunteer at the Harlem (Manhattan) or Queens Village locations
Time Commitment
Minimum of 4 hours per week (morning or afternoon shifts); full-time opportunities available
