MCAT Psych & Soc Workshop
Welcome to our MCAT Psych & Soc Workshop! This course is designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the concepts and passage strategies needed to excel in this section of the MCAT exam.
Course Structure
- Schedule: Once a week on Thursday nights at 6:30 PM, over Zoom.
- Duration: Each class lasts for 2 hours.
- Instructor: Expert instructor with a perfect MCAT score.
- **Course Format: The course is divided into two parts, each consisting of 4 classes over 4 weeks. Students can sign up for each part separately or for the full course.
Course Syllabus
Part 1: (May 30 - June 20)
1. **Experimental Design**
- Steps required to create a good experimental design.
- Exploration of non-experimental designs and important experiments.
2. **Society and Culture, Sociological Theory and Models, Social Structures**
- Theoretical approaches to society and culture.
- Sociological models and social structures.
- Exploration of social institutions and frameworks.
3. **Culture and Society**
- Demographics and societal shifts.
4. **The Self**
- Establishment of the self in society.
- Identity, behavior, attitude, and emotions.
Part 2: (June 27 - July 25) - No class on 4th of July
5. **Abnormal Psychology**
- Causes, symptoms, and treatments of abnormal psychology.
6. **Learning, Memory, and Attention**
- How we learn, store, and retrieve information.
- Attention and focus.
7. **Childhood and Development**
- Cognitive, social, and emotional development during childhood.
8. **Brain Anatomy**
- Anatomy and functions of the brain.
- Neurotransmitters and their functions.
**Note**: Topics on Hearing and the Ear, and Vision and the Eye are not offered as part of this cycle.
Goals
By the end of this course, you will have a strong understanding of the concepts covered in the "Psych & Soc" section of the MCAT exam, as well as the strategies needed to excel on the exam.
